Description

The DICOM Browser app lets you explore the contents of collections of DICOM files. The app sorts images by study and series. You can select a series and save it to the MATLAB workspace. The DICOM Browser stores the data as a volume, with separate variables for a colormap and for spatial details. You can also select a series and open it in another app, including the Medical Volume Viewer (Medical Imaging Toolbox), Medical Image Labeler (Medical Imaging Toolbox), Volume Viewer, or Video Viewer apps.

Open the DICOM Browser App

• MATLAB^® Toolstrip: On the Apps tab, under Image Processing and Computer Vision, click the DICOM Browser app icon.

• MATLAB command prompt: Enter dicomBrowser.

Programmatic Use

dicomBrowser opens the DICOM Browser app for exploring the contents of collections of DICOM files. After you open DICOM Browser, you can import the collection from a folder or from a workspace variable by selecting Import Collection from the app toolstrip.

dicomBrowser(DIR) opens the DICOM Browser app, displaying details about the files in the folder DIR and its subfolders. DIR can contain a full path name, a relative path name to the file, or the name of a file on the MATLAB search path.

dicomBrowser(DICOMDIR) opens the DICOM Browser app and gathers details from the DICOM directory file, named DICOMDIR. A DICOM directory file is a special DICOM file that serves as a directory to a collection of DICOM files stored on removable media, such as CD/DVD ROMs. DICOMDIR can contain a full path name or a relative path name to the file. The name of this file is DICOMDIR, with no file extension.

dicomBrowser(collection) opens the DICOM Browser app, displaying details about the files in the table, collection, returned by the dicomCollection function.

R2026a: Export to Medical Volume Viewer or Medical Image Labeler

The app now supports exporting volume series to the Medical Volume Viewer (Medical Imaging Toolbox) and Medical Image Labeler (Medical Imaging Toolbox) apps, which apply file metadata to display volumes using the correct voxel spacing and patient orientation, and with anatomical display markers. You can also export 2-D images and image series to the Medical Image Labeler (Medical Imaging Toolbox) app. The new export options require a Medical Imaging Toolbox™ license.
