It’s a blessing to be able to work with the tools—and people—I like every day. As a trainer at MathWorks, it’s even more rewarding to teach, sharing my passion with others and seeing our users succeed in their jobs.

I remember a moment during a recent training session when I introduced one of my favorite MATLAB features. An attendee immediately tried it out on his project and said, “You have no idea how much time this will save me on our weekly analysis. Please, let me get you a cake!”

Offers of sweet treats aren’t the only reason I’ve remained at MathWorks for almost five years. As the leading developer of mathematical computing software, the company cultivates an exciting, challenging work environment while remaining dedicated to enabling career and personal advancement for its employees.

Amazing Team Dynamics and Socials

Knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly are the characteristics of our UK training team. Everyone comes from a different domain of expertise. It’s not an exaggeration to say that I can learn something new during each discussion.

Before joining the team permanently, I completed a few projects in the training area. On my very first day, the entire team took me out for lunch to welcome me and get to know more about me. This warm gesture and the fun dynamics of the group made me think, “I want to work with these guys!”

The team-building fun is not limited to the workday. After hours, we often schedule time to get together for dinners and drinks, as well as mini golf, festival celebrations, and many other activities.

This year, I faced an unexpected health issue that limited my ability to speak. Several colleagues immediately offered to take over my trainings so that I could rest properly. There are no words to describe how touched and thankful I am for their kindness.

Space to Be as Creative as I Want

I’m often asked whether my job becomes repetitive and mundane. My response: Never! I enjoy researching each customer company and its products. The information I collect helps me tailor training content. It also enables me to actively engage with training attendees and get to know more about their industries and workflows. At the end of the day, we all learn something new!

From a higher-level perspective, times are changing and so are our approaches to training. The team often meets to review course content and brainstorm new examples and ideas, such as using ChatGPT, to improve the learning experience for training attendees.

Opportunities to Explore the World

MathWorks has customers worldwide. As a result, I have had the chance to deliver courses in the United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Estonia. In addition to trying out the local cuisine during these trips, I enjoy learning about different cultures from a professional standpoint. These experiences have raised my awareness of our global business network and how organizations function in other countries.

Another way I spend time abroad is by taking advantage of a popular company policy: Staff are entitled to work outside the United Kingdom for four weeks each year. I find this remote working option helpful. International staff like me are able to visit distant family and friends without interrupting our professional responsibilities.

How the Journey Started

I come from an aeronautical engineering and applied computational science background. As a student, I appreciated the convenience of using software from MathWorks to complete my coursework. Because I used MATLAB and Simulink so much in my engineering projects, they became like old friends.

During my final year of university, I met MathWorks representatives at a career fair and learned about the company’s culture and teams. Following graduation I initially joined the Engineering Development Group (EDG), the technical and leadership development program at MathWorks. During my two years with EDG, I worked on projects with many teams. It was the time with Training that resonated with me the most.

I know I’ve found the ideal professional home for me. MathWorks not only values but actively fosters the growth of its staff and contributes significantly to the advancement of engineering and science.
