Physical Channels
Physical channels correspond to sets of time-frequency resources used for transmission of particular transport channel data, control information, or indicator information. Each transport channel is mapped to a corresponding physical channel. The red outline contains LTE Toolbox™ downlink functionality for physical channels, transport channels, and control information.
Physical Channel | Description |
---|---|
PBCH — physical broadcast channel | The PBCH carries part of the system information required for terminals to access the network. |
PDSCH — physical downlink shared channel | The PDSCH carries user data and paging information to the terminal. |
PDCCH — physical downlink control channel | The PDCCH conveys control information, scheduling decisions for PDSCH reception, and for scheduling grants enabling transmission on the PUSCH. |
PCFICH — physical control format indicator channel | The PCFICH provides terminals with information to decode the set of PDCCHs. There is only one PCFICH per component carrier. |
PHICH — physical hybrid-ARQ indicator channel | The PHICH conveys the hybrid-ARQ acknowledgment indicating to the terminal whether the retransmission of a transport block is required. |
EPDCCH — enhanced physical downlink control channel | The EPDCCH is intended to be used to improve spectral reuse of control channel resources. It supports CoMP, downlink MIMO, beamforming, and frequency domain inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC). |
