Humotech Caplex System
Emulate the physical characteristics of wearable machines to accelerate research, development, testing, and evaluation
Highlights
- Develop, test, and evaluate concepts for wearable assistance rapidly with human users prior to costly physical prototyping
- Program, customize, and expand the wearable robotics platform in a multitude of ways to further any research and development objective
- Actuation and control components are located off-board and connected via a flexible tether to the wearable device, enabling a large range of motion, high power, greater accuracy, and exceptional versatility with minimal worn weight
- Specify and optimize parameters of interest through our graphical user interface (GUI) in real time
- Implement custom control algorithms on top of our base controller software to realize whatever ideas you may have for human assistance, augmentation, and rehabilitation
Description
Humotech’s Caplex™ system is a programmable, high-performance robotic system that emulates the real-world physical characteristics of wearable machines—from commercially-available physical products to next-generation concepts—to facilitate better and more efficient development, evaluation, and decision-making. Unlike in a simulation, with emulation the user experiences the physical sensations of wearing different devices or modes while using just one reprogrammable device. And, unlike with traditional trial and error or prototyping, one device can emulate many, eliminating the time-consuming need to switch between devices.
The Caplex System is a wearable robotics platform featuring MATLAB® and Simulink® at its core. Our customers program the actuation of the wearable devices using an environment and example controllers, all developed in MATLAB and Simulink. They operate the system in real time using a custom GUI developed by Humotech that interfaces with Simulink Real-Time™ running on a Speedgoat target machine. Customers can alter and/or expand the system’s programming using Simulink and the MATLAB Function blocks within. A Humotech Simulink library provides commonly-used functionality in drag-and-drop blocks, which can be leveraged to build custom controllers from scratch.
Our customers tend to be savvy with MATLAB, so building our tools in MATLAB and Simulink provides immediate familiarity for our customers, meaning they can get started more quickly and customize the behavior of the system more easily. The use of Speedgoat systems, with Simulink Real-Time, dramatically simplifies Humotech product development as it obviates the need for custom computing hardware, and enables a plug-and-play electrical I/O interface for users.
