find the number of occurances

my matrix is x=[ 1 1 1 3 3 4 4 4 6 7]

i want the output as y=[ 3 2 3 1 1]

i want to find how many times a particular value is occuring

y=sum(x(:)==unique(x))

Since 3 is occuring 2 times, the correct result is:

y=[3 2 3 1 1]

did you use the colon operator? if you dont use it, this error occours.
