Does anyone know if double precision floating point support for Simulink to HDL coder is coming anytime soon ?

Where did you find an affordable board with enough memory to have a double precision floating point core?

HDL Coder supports code generation for a number of blocks in single precision. Please look at the following example to see how it works.
HDL Coder also maps your design to Intel Altera and Xilinx floating point core libraries. Refer to the documentation for details.

Double precision support is on the development team's roadmap.
We are collecting requirements. Let us know if you want to collaborate with us in defining requirements for the feature in HDLCoder.
