I would like to be able to browse the locally installed documentation instead of the web documentation available at mathworks.com. I need to do this because my laptop does not always have an internet connection, or because my release is older than 5 years and the release-specific documentation is no longer available online. How can I configure MATLAB to do this?

NOTE: Since MATLAB R2023a, the offline documentation is no longer installed by default. For more information, see Install Documentation.
There is a setting in the Preferences that controls whether MATLAB uses the installed documentation or the online documentation. The setting is located at:
Preferences/Settings > MATLAB > Help > Documentation Location
Select the option that says Installed locally instead of "Web, on mathworks.com (Internet connection required)."
Please note that local documentation is only available for locally installed toolboxes. For documentation on toolboxes that you have not installed on your machine, you will need to refer to the online documentation (this may require a MathWorks account linked to a license).
