I am currently researching the regulation of thyroid hormone metabolic pathways and cell signalling in the combined foetal-maternal unit and their impact on foetal development via in silico methods (PK, PKPB, PKPD and Petri Nets).

I'm aiming to develop mathematical models of thyroid hormone homeostasis (Hypothalmus-Pituitary-Thyroid axis) in the brain which will capture thyroid hormone metabolism and its effects in this organ.

I hope to achieve an extended, linked, mother-foetus PBPK model which can be used to assess the effects of changes in maternal thyroid levels on the hormone levels in the foetus. This will enable an understanding of what circumstances chemicals can perturb thyroid hormone homeostasis sufficiently to produce an adverse effect to nervous system development (in utero and infant) in humans.
