Why do I receive fatal errors regarding libmtsk.so.1 when running MATLAB R2007a on Solaris?

When starting MATLAB R2007a on Solaris I get the following error:
ERROR: /usr/local/mathworks/matlab_R2007a/bin/sol64/MATLAB: fatal: libmtsk.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
Abort (core dumped)

Beginning in R2007a, MATLAB now employs some multitasking features. This error indicates that your system does not include the multitasking
libraries that MATLAB requires to run. To resolve this issue, you will need to patch up your system with the multitasking libraries.
Applying the following patches should resolve the issue:
For Solaris 8: 117557-04
For Solaris 9: 117560-06
For Solaris 10: 120753-05
