Recommended Software/Hardware for developing a GUI that can model objects in a 3D environment. Needs to be used with MATLAB.

I'm trying to compile a list of suggested software/hardware needed for a project that will involve creating a GUI in MATLAB that will allow the user to model 3D objects (e.g. OpenGL, a MATLAB toolbox that can offer OpenGL-like functionality, particular video cards). I'm really unsure of where to start and need some guidance.
