Merge level set contours

Given the below image that displays the level set contours(obtained from contourf),I would like to merge the level sets.As shown in the below image,there are areas where the level sets are close to one another and then we have areas in the image where they are spaced apart.

Any help will be appreciated.if any clarifications are needed please let me know

What do you mean by merge? Read about contour. You can specify the levels here.
