Format for returning a ResultSet to Matlab via an Oracle Stored Procedure

Hello,
I have been having trouble getting a ResultSet into Matlab via an Oracle Stored Procedure. I am using 'exec' and then 'fetch', but I always get an 'Invalid Cursor' message in the cursor struct. I am using a simple query that executes in SQL*Plus, so I know the query is not the problem.
I have tried to create a PL/SQL function that returns a cursor, that doesn't work. I then tried a procedure with one variable as an OUT cursor and that didn't work either. I have tried defining my own cursor and also ref cursor.
Does anybody have a simple stored procedure that illustrates the format that I need to use?
Thanks and any help is much appreciated, Greg
