assign scatter points into each grid and show probability in colorbar

hi everyone, I currently generated large amount of points, how can i divide the plane into many small grids and assign the points included as that specific grid, then show the probability of hitting the grids as different color with a colorbar next to the figure. so the result i am trying to get is different grid has different color showing the probability. thank you very much

thanks for your help, this is what I meant, but after trying it, I think it will be better to use 3d for my case. Now im trying to figure out how to place an image as the background of x-y plane in hist3, I kinda stucked

You can surf() the histogram results.
