xPC target: How to configure host and target computers?

Hello,
I would like to use an old computer as my xPC target, but I have many doubts. The biggest ones are: * Do I need to format the target computer? * If so, should I install something afterwards or just leave it 'empty'? * Which is the best way to connect the two computers? Ethernet? * Do I need to buy a card to connect the host computer (for instance, Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter).
thanks a lot for the help.

Ethernet should work fine. Nothing needs to be installed in the target, but there are few settings you will need to make sure are correct which are mentioned in the doc page below. Click on Ethernet setup and target computer settings.
There are different ways to put the kernel onto the target for realtime operation, your target must have space to run the kernel:
You don't need a additional hardware. Make sure you go through the doc.
