Writing table data into text file. Adapt data from a table to write it into the "mid" section of a text file!

Hello everyone!

I import excel data with the readtable function and I would like to adapt this data slightly for export in a text file.

Following you will find an example code:

t=table( 0 ,5, 6 ,3, 1)
 fid = fopen("loop_test.mos",'wt+');
 first_base_text="This is a basic text I want to add to the beginning of the file.\nTesting of new line"
 fprintf(fid, first_base_text)
 
 %fprintf(fid,t)
 
 last_base_text="This is the text i want to add at the end"
 fprintf(fid,last_base_text)
 fclose(fid)
 
 

And the example text file should look like this:

This is a basic text I want to add to the beginning of the file.

Testing of new line;

This is the text I want to add to the end of the file.

The code should be able to handle different sizes of table, because the table size depends on the input via excel import.

I just do not get an idea on how to handle this eloquently. I hope that you are able to offer me some support!

Yes I already looked at writetable. But i found two problems, i was not able to write the table into my created fid, it always created a new text file. My file is not defined as a .txt file but as a .mos, which i need for a dymola script.

The second problem was, that i was not able to put the table content in context with t={table conten}

Assuming your table is relatively simple, you could do something like this:

t=table( 0 ,5, 6 ,3, 1);
% add a second line for complexity
t{2,:}=5:-1:1;

fprintf(fid,'t={\n')
fprintf(fid,'%f %f %f %f %f\n',t{:,:}')
fprintf(fid,'}')

to get

t={
	0.000000 5.000000 6.000000 3.000000 1.000000
	5.000000 4.000000 3.000000 2.000000 1.000000
}

(if you don't want the brackets separated by linebreaks, you can write the last line separately:

t=table( 0 ,5, 6 ,3, 1);
% add a second line for complexity
t{2,:}=5:-1:1;

My tables are not that simple and the larger problem is, that they are not a fixed sized. If i do not know how many entries my table has at the beginning, how do i set up the textformat?

Following you will find how it is supposed to look like. In this case the table has 8 entries, but it could be 2 or even like 30.....

I am pretty sure this is not well coded and it says that i should not use the textread function anymore. But this code does give me the intended:

This is a basic text I want to add to the beginning of the file.

I do not feel quite comfortable with this code

are your tables always one line? If so,

fprintf(fid,'t={')
fprintf(fid,'%f,',t{:,1:end-1})
fprintf(fid,'%f}',t{:,end})

will do it.

If not, you could do:

t=table( 0 ,5, 6 ,3, 1);
t{2,:}=5:-1:1;
fmt=[repmat('%f,',1,width(t)-1) '%f']
fprintf(fid,['t={' fmt '\n'],t{1,:})
fprintf(fid,['   ' fmt '}\n'],t{2:end,:}')

to get

t={0.000000,5.000000,6.000000,3.000000,1.000000
   5.000000,4.000000,3.000000,2.000000,1.000000}

Yes my tables have only one line.

Your code does work fine, until i have a table containing strings, then i have the problem, that fprint if not valid for cell inputs, if i convert the type with cell 2 mat, i loose the comma delimiter between the inputs

alternatively, if you have the cell array as a variable, you can convert it while making the table:
