Hi, I am trying to achieve a similar plot as shown on the cover of 'Anisotropic plates: Lekhnitskii' http://www.amazon.com/Anisotropic-Plates-S-Lekhnitskii/dp/0677206704 I have plotted the data using simple polar plot no problem but they vanish to a point. A scale factor would just enlarge everything but leave it as it is, its for visualization purpose mostly as I can get the actual figures from the data.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Could you please post some sample code you have written so we can understand what you means by vanish to a point and enlarge everything but leave it as it is

I think you mean that the polar plot converges to a point and does not represent the hole in the plate. Take a look a Teja's answer here and see if it gives you some ideas: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/57420#answer_69611

Sorry for the late response, thanks for your help so far but unfortunately I managed to delete some of my dissertation files by accident from my usb including the matlab code. I have rewritten it but only the calculation parts and up to the standard polar plot so I cant include any useful code for this purpose and will have to delay it to make up for the time lost redoing some of my work.
I had done part of the solution and it was only a matter of extending it and I would have finished and posted the final code but here is what I had done in my notes:
This is fairly simple to implement so I wont ask you guys to do it for me, I just hoped it had been done before or their was a quick way of doing it.
Thanks
