Parse XML utilizing XSD and store data

I am aware of xmlread(), but it has not proven effective for what I need to do - parse an XML file with multiple branches. I have an XSD for this type of file, so I'm wondering if there is a way to use the XSD to parse the XML file and extract the information. Alternatively, using something else (called from MATLAB) would be acceptable.
