I'm getting this error with syms, do you know how can I fix it?

I'm using the lastest MatLab version which is R2020a with High Sierra 10.13.6

That is the combination I normally use, R2020a with High Sierra, so I can say that it normally works...

Cool! But even though I'm using that combination I'm still experiencing the error with syms. Do you reccommend me to uninstall MatLab and then re-installing it?

I cannot reproduce your error. Try restarting MATLAB?

Is this all part of some larger code? What happens in a clean workspace when you just type syms x_1 in the Command Window? Do you still get the error?

Let's make sure you're calling the mupadmex MEX-file that is part of Symbolic Math Toolbox. What does this command display?

which -all mupadmex
