MATLAB-Arduino State architecture

The user selects state 1,2 or 3 Motor goes to 0 degree position for state 1.
Motor goes to 60 degree position for state 2.
Motor goas to 300 degree position for state 3.
State actuates motors correctly regardless of what state the motor is positioned to.
Needs to be accurate.
Needs some detailed integration directions regarding configuring the PDE files and intializing motor pins on the arduino!!

Is it allowed to know which state it is, or does it have to deduce that by communicating with the the motor sensors?
