Estimate frequency and amplitude of oscillating data

I have a set of oscillating data and need to estimate the 1) frequency and 2) amplitude as well as the uncertainty of each estimate (as a function of time).
The program is supposed to include a linear least-squares solution for amplitude and phase and non-linear iterative approach for frequency.
How do I get started with this? Modify the sin equation?
