SimMechanics API

I am looking at the SimMechanics API, and was wondering if the format of the XML file is defined somewhere. I have a matlab routine that extracts all the information from a pouplar MBD software package file, hence it would be far easier to just write the XML file, rather than do all of this in C++ etc.
