RPM sensor with MATLAB

Hi Guys, I have develop RPM sensor project with simulink MATLAB interfaced by NIDAQ 6008, my question is, how is the best way that I can calculate the speed in RPM effectively, I've using Timer and then logical Gate to produce rotation RPS and then times to 60 to produce RPM, but is there anyway how to make it more effectively? thanks
