Clear command line in startup script (startup.m)

Hi!
I use a startup script (startup.m) which will set some paths and environmental variables upon startup of Matlab. This generates quite some console output, which I would like to remove at the end of the startup.m using clc, such that I have a blank window once I start programming.
Interestingly, this worked so far (I was using Matlab2018b). Now I just got an old version of Matlab installed (Matlab2017a) that I need to use for some specific features, however, now the clc in the startup script does not work anymore. I get all the console output and cannot clear it within the script.
Do you have any idea why (or what I could do)?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Stefanie
