Simulink stays "blank" when trying to start

When trying to open Simulink in Matlab R2018a, it opens the pop-up window for "Simulink Start Page", but it stays completly blank. I've let it stay like that for a good 30 minuttes and still nothing happens. I've also tried restarting Matlab, as well as rebooting the computer, but yet the same result. The same thing also seems to happen with the "App designer". I need this Simulink badly for my studies. Does anyone have a fix?

I've also seen other threads for solutions, but nothing has worked.

My simulink WAS working. After installing some extra toolboxes I started getting this problem too. A reinstall doesn't help. My other PC's simulink works fine but it also doesn’t have all the toolboxes installed. I suspect the issue might be with installing a particular toolbox.

i am on a corporate laptop, adminstered by IT department, if that is the right terminology. I personally had to run Matlab as an administrator to get the Simulink window to populate. I had to apply for the rights to use Windows admin account as developer rights.

I understand that when you try to open Simulink in Matlab R2018a, it opens the pop-up window for "Simulink Start Page", but it stays completly blank. You may try the following workarounds:

• Follow these steps to recreate your MATLAB preferences: https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/99625-how-do-i-regenerate-my-matlab-preferences
• Try launching other MATLAB Applications (>> appdesigner) that use web browser technologies and if available the System Identification App from the APPS tab in the toolstrip. If these applications do not open up, try changing the HTML renderer using the following commands (please restart MATLAB after changing the HTML renderer for the new setting to take effect) and see if it resolves the issue:

webutils.htmlrenderer('chromium')
webutils.htmlrenderer('basic')
webutils.htmlrenderer('mozilla')
webutils.htmlrenderer('safari')

% And revert back to default using:
webutils.htmlrenderer('default')

• In MATLAB, go to "Preferences -> MATLAB -> Web" and see if "Use a proxy server to connect to the internet" is checked. If it is, un-check this option and see if the issue is still reproduced.
• Make sure that any AntiVirus or Firewalls installed on the system are not blocking anything in the MATLAB installation directory.
• If your network setting uses HTTP proxy, modify your network configuration to add an HTTP proxy exception. In Windows, you can do this by going to Control Panel -> Network settings -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> turned ON "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" with "Use a proxy server for your LAN".
• 6) Try to run MATLAB using software OpenGL. To do so, close all MATLAB windows except the main one, then execute the following command in MATLAB Command Window, and open the app again.​

opengl software

• Open a fresh MATLAB session, run the following commands before executing/opening anything else. Then, open the app again.

wm = matlab.internal.webwindowmanager.instance;
wm.setStartupOptions('ExtProcess', '--disable-gpu');
