Preprocessing of image so that the objects in image are not distorted

Hello,

I have attached the image which is taken by my mobile camera. I want to identify different objects in image. But before that I have try to preprocessing the image using many tools of image processing like histrogram equalization, morphological operations and median filtering. But the problem is that the object edges are distorted after preprocessing. I request you to please suggest me the preprocessing steps for attached image so that objects' edges are not distorted and I can identify different objects in the image.
