How do I input Signal data into MATLAB and apply filter along with storage model on it?

Basically I have data that can be made into signal, I plan to smooth it by using filter.
The data is Solar PV power output and for the filter would be Moving Average filter in integration with storage.
I tried to read some articles, but I still could not grab tha basic of this system. Ususually the battery is modelled in Simulink but the filter is a code n MATLAB, how to connect them?
