CAD model cutting slices

Hi, I am quite desesperate and I need help. I need to do cut a CAD model that can be either as ".stl" or ".igs" but the command "slice" doesn't work saying I need "V" to be a volume or 3D array. Is there a way to set as volume? I have tried a lot of different approaches with an stl file. And ".igs" the IGES Toolbox is not working properly.

If somebody could help me I would be really thankful :(

Depending on what is meant by "cut a model" means:

Find the 2D sectional geometry at a given altitude:
