How do I filter out the central peak of a sinc-function using FFT?

Hello,
Given f(x)=sinc(x), Fourier transforming this into the frequency domain (u) leads to a step function:
I think if have to filter out the low frequency domain and then Fourier transform it back to the spatial domain(?) to filter out the central peak of the sinc function. If so, how do I do that? I'm completely new in Matlab.
