Constraining fminconvariables over both two ranges or a values and a range, is it possible?

Can I constrain the variables for the function fmincon for a nonlinear function, with a variable number of variables, so that the variables can either be within a range (say 1-5 OR a value say 0). On the other hand could I exclude an area for the variables, say the cannot be 1-2 but could be 0-1 and 2-infinity?
