Writing my image > Opening my image --> Problems

Hi All,

I have a problem with saving an array as an image and opening up said image.

The array consists of 8526 x 16384 uint16 data type. I want to save this array as a jpeg and finally open up that jpeg to do image enhancement.

This is the method I have employed:

imwrite(myArray,'myImage.jpg','jpg','BitDepth',16); 
I = imread('myImage.jpg');
imagesc(I,[min(I(:)) max(I(:))] );
colormap(gray);

So far, this only works for much smaller sub-images, but the larger images that I try only produce a dark gray box.
