Why did I suddenly loose my Git control features on my folders?

I lost git control on my folders which where working just fine before. It seems I have to start over again. The .git directory is still present in my folder

What has happened since it worked? Has it worked before at all? Cuirrently an answer demands for guessing.

Is it just within MATLAB or within an explorer window as well?
