I bought a student license today. I downloaded and installed R2016b w/o any problem. However, every single time I make a search for documentation or check for updates, MATLAB stops working immediately and does not respond any more. Also, it doesn't even return any dialog or error box on screen. Just freezes! So, I have to force quitting. Here are my version info and system info.
MATLAB Version: (R2016b),
MATLAB License Number: STUDENT,
Operating System: Mac OS X Version: 10.11.6 Build: 15G1004,
Java Version: Java 1.7.0_75-b13 with Oracle Corporation Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM mixed mode,
Model Name: MacBook Pro,
Model Introducer: MacBookPro10.2,
Processor: Intel Core i5,
Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz,
# of Processors: 1,
# of Cores: 2,
L2 Cache (for each core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 3 MB
Boot ROM Version: MBP102.0106.B0A
SMC Ver. (system): 2.6f59

No, I am not using a proxy connection. The problem keeps going even though I uninstalled and re-installed once more.

You could try using the online documentation available at this link: http://www.mathworks.com/help/releases/R2016b/index.html
Further, since this is recent install, this could potentially be caused due to a corrupt installation. I recommend you try uninstalling and reinstalling MATLAB R2016b.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I just did it but not worked. I'll use the online documentation until R2017a release is available.
