A star algorithm for path planning in 3D maps

Is it possible to use the A* algorithm in 3d environments? I already implemented a version for 2D maps. In this case I have 8 movement styles. While in case of 3d I have to consider 26 movement styles in space and for this reason I have to use a cube with 26 different cells and respective weights. I want to know how I can fix the weights for these new 18 movements (18+8 of 2D case=26 in total) if it is possible. Thanks

I need also the implementation of A* algorithm for 3d node input (x,y,z). Please, if you have done it, could you share?
