I recently upgraded MATLAB on my work computer from R2015b to R2016a. I run R2016a on my home computer. I made a Simulink model on my home computer, and share it via dropbox. When I try to run it (using R2016a) on my work computer, I get the following error:
Unexpected Standard exception from MEX file. What() is:fl:filesystem:SystemError ..
I am not an administrator on this computer and I feel as though that may have something to do with it. I needed an admin to install R2016a and I think there may have been a point where a path needed to be saved and wasn't properly. This is just my first guess, though.

Hello Josh Levin,
As per my understanding, Simulink model shared over Dropbox works fine on your home computer but does not run on your work computer.
Please note that the encountered error message here "Unexpected Standard exception from MEX file, is:fl:filesystem:SystemError", is suggesting that there might be an issue with the file system or file access permissions on your work computer. Since you are not an administrator on that computer, it is possible that some necessary files or paths were not properly set up during the installation of MATLAB R2016a.
To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:
  1. Check file permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary read and write permissions for the Simulink model files and any related files or folders. Right-click on the files/folders, go to "Properties," and make sure your user account has the appropriate permissions.
  2. Verify MATLAB paths: Confirm that the MATLAB paths are set correctly on your work computer. Open MATLAB and go to "Set Path" under the "Home" tab. Check if the necessary paths for your Simulink model and any required MATLAB toolboxes are included. If any paths are missing, you can add them manually.
  3. Reinstall MATLAB: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to reinstall MATLAB R2016a on your work computer. This time, try running the installer with administrative privileges. Contact your system administrator for assistance if needed.
I hope it helps!
