getting an import error

hello when I try to Import data I receive

Error using uiimport (line 142)
Java exception occurred:
java.lang.NullPointerException
  at java.util.Collections.addAll(Collections.java:3844)
  at com.mathworks.mlwidgets.workspace.ImportFileChooser.setupExtensionsForDropDown(ImportFileChooser.java:47)

this is just started and I have no idea why. Can anyone help? g.

Gavin - do you observe this error for all files that you try to import or just a particular one? Which version of MATLAB and OS are you using?
