How can I export the contourm C variable to a struc?

I have created a matlab figure with multiple contours with contourm. I would like to export the contours to a shape file. How can I export the C variable to a struc? What is the format of the C matrix? It contains more than just lat and long data.

This code gives me a good starting point for getting my data out of the contour matrix format.

Similar to Walter's suggestion, C2xyz puts x, y, and z values into their own cells. You could convert the cells to struct by cell2struct.
