please can some one explain

I was asked to make a function that returns an average by mean(), but the function takes a vector as value, so I tried writing so many functions. All give me an error when writing the Length part.

So please can someone tell me how to write the function with vector as value?

This will take any shape of input data - vector, matrix, or multi-dimensional.

You do not need to use a for loop unless you are required to do so by the instructions of your assignment.

i wrote this as a function but it keeps giving me an error on the second line

L = length(X);
sum = 0;
Q= 0 ;
while  Q < L
    sum = sum +Q ;
   J = Q +1;

Y = sum / J ;

You never increment Q. You have a variable J that is assigned but never used. You used "sum" as the name of a variable, but sum is a reserved function name for a built in function.

No, of course not. Why are you adding in the loop iteration index? Think. What do you want to sum up? The mean is the sum divided by the count. But the sum of what? Surely it's not the loop counter! Think about what needs to get summed.

i need to sum numbers inside the vector .. i used the loop to iterate inside the vector and sum it's elements
