Why do I receive the error "Windows cannot find 'x'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." when updating my license within MATLAB?

When I try updating my license using Help>Licensing>Update License within MATLAB R2016a, I receive an error indicating "Windows cannot find 'x'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again".

This error can occur on Windows 10 and Windows 7 installations of MATLAB R2016a if your user account does not have administrative privileges on your machine when attempting to perform a license update.
As a workaround, launch MATLAB as an administrator and then perform the update using the Licensing menu.
