rlocus pole assignment in plot does not match output matrix

As far as I understand, using
[R, ~ ] = rlocus(sys);
should return the positions of the poles for different Kp. R has one row for each pole, but the values do not match the displayed paths of the poles.
E.g.
sys = s/(s^2+0.5*s+1);
rlocus(sys)
R = rlocus(sys)'
displays two poles:
1. pole goes from (-0.25,0.968j) to (0,0)
2. pole goes from (-0.25,-0.968j) to (-2,0)
However, in the R matrix, the paths are somehow scrambled, i.e. the first pole goes from (-0.25,0.968j) to (-2,0) and the second one goes from (-0.25,-0.968j) to (0,0). I suppose that since they "meet" in the middle one cannot really know which pole goes which way, but it still seems strange that rlocus would plot something different than its output? Is there a way to fix that?
Thanks!
