Matlab licensing on a dual-boot machine

I've been running Matlab on an old Vista box for a while. I upgraded the HD to give me space to make it dual-boot and added CAE Linux (an obscure distro, basically Xubuntu with a huge lot of scientific and engineering packages like Octave, Fritzing and the Arduino IDE). I've been told it's OK to have both Linux and Windows versions of Matlab on a single dual boot machine. But the Linux version won't install because the license is tied to the volume number of the old HD.
I can see two ways of proceeding - change the license to it's tied to the Ethernet MAC (though I don't know if I can do that). Or de-autherise the computer, install the Linux version and reinstall the Windows version.
Does anybody have experience in this sort of thing? Any comments or advice?
