Are you sure it was not MATLAB 7.3? That was R2006b

Or it could be referring to a toolbox version, not a version of MATLAB. It's fairly rare for MATLAB to have a third (nonzero) digit in the version number (usually those are associated with service pack releases) but toolboxes often have a nonzero third number in their version number.
