Why am I unable to submit orders to Rotman Interactive Trader? OrderID always = 0?

I downloaded the Rotman Trader Toolbox by Stuart Kozola. I can stream data and make plots, all as described in the documentation available online through MathWorks. Whenever I make a buy or sell order, nothing happens in the Rotman software and I get a response that the buy or sell ID is 0. This happens even if I run the exact trading example included with the toolbox (the only thing I changed is the ticker). I am using the COM1 Case. Does anybody have an idea why the orders are not going through?
