Synchronized IEEE 1394/Firewire Camera Triggering Using Simulink/Image Acquisition Toolbox

Hello all. I’m planning a stereo vision set-up using two IEEE 1394/FireWire interfaced cameras, much like the Point Grey Firefly MV camera: http://www.ptgrey.com/firefly-mv-03-mp-mono-firewire-1394a-micron-mt9v022-camera
Camera synchronization is critical to a stereo vision set-up. How can I synchronize the triggering of two IEEE 1394/FireWire cameras using the Image Acquisition Toolbox and/or Simulink?
I also see that most of the support for this interface is tailored to a Windows machine. If I try to get things working on a Mac will it me more trouble than it’s worth? I see that Mac does sell a FireWire adaptor...
Any suggestions or tips are appreciated.
