In the world of aerospace/robotics/automotive startups, I'm hearing more and more that folks want to
  1. Use Simulink
  2. Use Rust, and avoid handwriting C/C++ code
People really like simulink for its speed of development, especially when simulation is needed as part of the development flow.
It's all too common for new startups to start writing C/C++ code for a variety of reasons. For those who use Simulink workflows, one common reason is that they already have autocode from Simulink as a starting point from their applications! Continuing to use C/C++ is so much easier than figuring out how to manage the interface between C++ and Rust in their applications. I know a few companies who from the beginning have decided to use simulink but also bias towards using Rust where possible (e.g. mine), but for now this is uncommon, and it's extremeley rare to see any companies actually migrate a codebase from C/C++ to rust.
Mathworks - you could help move the whole industry forward! I'm sure most large players who pay for lots of Matlab/Simulink seats won't jump at the opportunity of migrating their systems to Rust, but a whole bunch of startups would be thrilled to see this happen so they can almost entirely avoid using C/C++ for their projects.
I also think that strategically, this could buy down some risk of losing market share to new companies who are making (typically cloud-based) Simulink alternatives. It would obviously be very hard for MathWorks to spin up a cloud-based product that solves the collaboration pain-points that some users experience. So you should start by addressing the other, easier to fix pain points that could cause companies to make the move away from Simulink!
I'm aware that this point was brought up a few years ago on this forum, and that MathWorks' response was that they had no plan:
But I think the industry has evolved since then and the need is greater!
