huffman coding and decoding for images???

i wanna implement this concept of loss-less coding and decoding to my project. i have finished doing everything else but coding and decoding isn't done. leave comments on using the inbuilt Huffman coding and decoding commands. and also give some comments like how does this improve ones compression algorithm when compared to other coding techniques. and i am using lossy jpeg algorithm.
