Real time windows target hangs at t=0 during rtvdp test

I am trying to setup a real time simulink model, but I can't even get the rtvdp program to run. I am running windows 8.1 64 bit on a Lenovo y580 laptop. It has an i7-3630QM CPU. I'm running matlab version 2014a. My friend can get it to work on her laptop, which is running Windows 7 and the same version of Matlab.
The rtvdp program will build successfully and it begins to run, but it just gets stuck at time 0. I have tried running rtwintgt -install and setting useplatformclock in the windows bcdedit, but nothing seems to work. Please help!
