legend entry callbacks in 2014b

Before 2014B hittest and callbacks could be set for individual entries in the legend display. Is there a way to do this now?

I have a complex plot with multiple data sets that cannot be described easily within a limited number of characters in the data set. The legend entry callbacks were used to pop up a message box with a more complete description that takes 5-10 lines of text.
