Prevent Matlab Command Window from Freezing upon Minimization

I have script that can take a long time (hours) to run. To check on the script's progress I periodically print to the console.
The problem is that if I accidentally minimize the command window, I cannot maximize the window again until the script is complete. This means that I can no longer check on the script's progress.
Is there anything that I can do to force the command window to behave "properly" and allow maximization/minimization while a script is running?
Using R2013a on Windows 8.1.
