How to create a 'rotating' gif or movie of a surface?

I have a 3d surface in Matlab. I want to create a rotating 3d surface so that it is viewed from all directions and then be able to generate a GIF or a movie out of it.
Is this possible?

I recall a tool on the FEX that would let you create a movie from a sequence of surfs. It was anymate .

Yes, it is. The principle is that you create different views and then concatenate it to a movie. See this page. Views can be set by the view function
