[Solved] license manager : Error 508: cannot create /var/tmp/lm_TMW.dat: Permission denied & FlexNet Licensing error:-13,66

We have issues when we start license manager on Debian 11 VM (QEMU) with many "/usr/share/matlab/etc/lm_matlab/etc/lmboot: 508: cannot create /var/tmp/lm_TMW.dat: Permission denied" :

~# /usr/share/matlab/etc/lm_matlab/etc/lmboot -u matlab

We have a similar issue on a privilegied and nested lxc container (Debian 9 and 10) on a ProxmoxVE 7 (Debian 11) :

License manager seems able to create lm_TMW.* files in /var/tmp but is not able to write or read them.

We don't have issue on a privilegied and nested lxc container (Debian 9) on a ProxmoxVE 6.

How can we solve it ?

You have to install lsb package (Linux Standard Base library).

I figured out my solution. it was not lsb package: lsb-compat_9.20161125_amd64.deb (for ubuntu 20 LTS) which I already had.

My issue was resolved by running the license manager as regular user. it couldn't be run by root even if you specify -u matlab. The error I kept getting was :

(lmgrd) License Path: "/var/tmp/lm_TMW.dat"

(lmgrd) FlexNet Licensing error:-13,66

/var/tmp/ has other lm_* files just fine. It just could not copy the license to "/var/tmp/lm_TMW.dat"
